We Didn’t Build Grindstone in a Boardroom.
We built it in a scrap yard. In a garage. On a stage in the middle of nowhere. We built it with grease under our fingernails, sawdust in our lungs, and years of reaching for soap that was never built for us.
We’re the Connolly brothers — Logan, Marcus, and Lucus. Three guys from St. Catharines, Ontario who’ve spent our working lives getting dirty for a living. This is our story and this is why Grindstone exists.
Logan — Founder
I’ve been working with my hands my whole life.
Lucus and I spent years together at a transport truck scrap yard — pulling apart heavy trucks piece by piece with power tools, problem-solving on the fly, and getting covered in the kind of grease and grime that doesn’t come off without a fight. You learn a lot about machines in a scrap yard. You learn a lot about your hands too.
From there I moved into long haul trucking and heavy towing — logging thousands of kilometres behind the wheel, doing roadside mechanical work in all conditions, and coming home with hands that told the story of every hour I’d put in.
I washed my hands constantly. Before meals. After shifts. At the end of a long day on the road. And no matter how many times I scrubbed — no matter what soap I reached for — I couldn’t get them genuinely clean. Not without resorting to harsh chemicals that left my hands cracked, dry, and worse off than before.
I tried everything on the market. Men’s soaps. Industrial hand cleaners. The fancy stuff. The cheap stuff. None of it was built for what I actually do every day. It was all built for someone who sits at a desk — someone who needs a soap that smells nice, not one that actually works.
So I stopped looking for the right soap and started building it.
Lucus — Co-Founder
Lucus knows what dirty hands look like because he’s had them his whole working life.
Alongside me at the scrap yard, Lucus spent years dismantling transport trucks — taking apart engines, pulling components, running power tools for hours on end. The kind of work that leaves its mark on your hands whether you want it to or not.
Lucus knows better than most that the guys doing the real physical work deserve products that actually understand what that work looks like. When I told him what I was building he didn’t hesitate. Grindstone is as much his as it is mine.
Marcus — Co-Founder
Marcus’s office changes every week. One week it’s a hockey arena in Toronto. The next it’s an outdoor festival in the middle of a field. Marcus builds stages — the massive structures that hold concerts, live events, and performances together — and he does it by moving heavy, dirty, dusty materials in conditions that would make most people think twice.
Concert stage building isn’t glamorous. It’s physically demanding, relentlessly dirty work that most people never think about when they’re watching their favourite artist perform. Marcus thinks about it every day — because he’s the one making it happen.
He was one of the first people I handed a bar of GRIT to. His feedback was the same as mine — finally, a soap that actually does what it says.
Why We Built This
Between the three of us we’ve worked in scrap yards, garages, highways, arenas, and festival fields. We’ve done heavy towing in the middle of the night and stage builds that started before sunrise. We’ve clocked more dirty shifts than we can count.
And through all of it, the soap aisle never had anything for us.
Everything was lavender and “refreshing citrus.” Everything was built for someone who doesn’t know how deep the grease off the back of a 5th wheel plate sinks into your skin, or how dried out and cracked your hands get from the harsh chemicals that used to be the only option. The soap market forgot about the people who keep the economy moving — the ones who work countless hours with their hands, the ones with the “Dirty Hands, Clean Money” sticker on their truck. No need for dirty hands anymore.
Grindstone is for them.
We built the soap we always needed. Now we’re sharing it with the people who need it most.
Grindstone is for those people. It always was.
We’re not a brand built in a lab by a marketing team. We’re three brothers from St. Catharines who got tired of washing our hands five times and still feeling like we missed something. We built the soap we always needed and now we’re sharing it with the people who need it most.
Handcrafted in Canada
Grindstone is handcrafted in Northern Ontario by a small-batch Canadian soap maker who shares our values — real ingredients, no shortcuts, no synthetic nonsense. Every bar that ships from us was made by real hands, in real Canada, for real workers.
We’re proud of that. We’ll always be proud of that.
Built for Hard Work. Designed for Recovery.
Whether you’re coming off a long haul, a day under a truck, a shift on a job site, or a full day building a stage — Grindstone was built for the end of your day.
You earned a proper clean. We built the soap to give you one.
Welcome to Grindstone Supply Co.
